Turn on Lockdown, and students take the quiz in one full-screen Chrome tab with the free LMSystems Lockdown extension. New tabs close, other extensions must be off, and each time a student leaves, the quiz pauses and you see it.

For students

One tab, full screen, until they submit.

Students see what Lockdown does before they begin. Once they start, the quiz is the only thing on their screen in Chrome.

  • Chrome goes full screen when they begin, and stays on the quiz until they submit
  • New tabs and windows close, and other tabs snap back to the quiz
  • Other extensions must be off. The page lists each one with a Turn off button
  • Extensions your school installed stay on
  • If they leave, the quiz pauses and hides its questions until they come back

Each response shows when a student stepped away from the quiz, so you know which answers deserve a closer look.

There's nothing to install on your side. Turn Lockdown on for a quiz, and the quiz page walks each student through the rest.

Does Lockdown cost anything?

No. Lockdown is free on every plan and never uses credits.

Which devices work?

Chrome on a Chromebook, or on a Windows or Mac computer. A lockdown quiz can't be taken on a phone or tablet. Every other quiz works in any modern browser, phones included.

What if a student doesn't have the extension?

The quiz page asks them to add it, with a link to the Chrome Web Store, and then to reload. The quiz doesn't begin until it's on.

What can't Lockdown block?

It keeps Chrome on the quiz, but it can't stop other apps on the computer, Chrome's own side panel or a second device. That's why it also counts every time a student leaves the quiz, for you to look at.

Does the extension collect any data?

No. It stores nothing and sends nothing. It only checks which other extensions are on, so the quiz page can ask the student to turn them off.

Can our school install it for every student?

Yes. An admin can force-install it on managed Chromebooks and Chrome browsers from the Google Admin console.
